Silver Canyon Pottery is located on scenic Catalina Island, 21 miles off the coast of Southern California. The pottery has produced a wide variety of products since its founding in 1988 by island local Robin Cassidy. Robin has become widely known for her work restoring the tiles of downtown Avalon, which were famously produced on the island during the 20's and 30's. The pottery has maintained a retail store in town for 10 years and has taken on numerous high end custom projects both locally and on the mainland. She has been featured in Coastal Living Magazine and has been the subject of a long running "in flight video" for Hawaiian Airlines. Her most recent endeavor has been to bring the history and fun of tile making to the visitors to the island via her popular studio tours. She has also been very busy getting back to her potters roots with a new line of tile inlay functional ware available at Catalina Bath and Bodyworks here in Avalon. Historic art tile of the golden age of California, the beauty of the land and it's harvest have all provided a treasure trove of inspiration.
Our facility is located on Catalina Island in an area known as Pebbly Beach. It's at the tip of the site of the former (and quite famous!) Catalina Pottery and Tile. This original factory, in operation from 1928-1939, produced a wide range of ceramic works including dinnerware, figurines and decorative tile. Silver Canyon Pottery continues to be the source of most of the tile used in the restoration of historic installations throughout the island town. All design and production is done "in house". We are proud to be a local company providing employment for our community and great products proudly made in the U.S.
Robin is an island local who decided at the end of her college career to pursue her love of ceramics. The first few years were spent working at the Pottery Studio in Berkeley CA, followed by the move home to establish her own pottery in 1988. After years spent working on the wheel, she was drawn into tile making to continue the tradition of the original tile work produced on the island . More recently she has shifted focus back again, designing a line of tile inlay pottery. Always something new is her motto.
